Study Tips for Online Degree and Adult Students
Sunday, March 29th, 2009Are you an adult student in an online degree program or a working adult enrolled in a traditional campus-based bachelors or masters degree program? If so, you face a significant challenge; finding time to earn a degree while juggling your other responsibilities. Here are some tips that may help.
1. Put together a study schedule and stick to it.
2. Make a “to do” list of your assignments, putting the most important first. Then, complete them in order. When in doubt, schedule your most difficult assignments first.
3. Set up a study area with a comfortable chair, desk, a computer with Internet service, and good lighting. You’ll get more done if you study in a proper environment.
4. Take scheduled study breaks. And, take a break if you are experiencing difficulty with an assignment or if you find yourself getting frustrated. Everyone is different, but a five or ten minute break after every hour or hour and a half of study will refresh most students.
5. Talk with your friends and family so they will understand that you need to be undisturbed during the times you have set aside for your studies.
6. Be sure that you take an appropriate academic load; don’t be in too much of a hurry. The biggest enemy of online degree and traditional students is the temptation to carry a heavier academic load than they should so they can earn a degree more quickly.
The preceeding suggestions, a reasonable level of motivation, and a bit of self-discipline are all you need to earn a degree that can greatly enhance your career and earning power. Go for it.
